The Damry lab is committed to promoting an inclusive, diverse, and equitable research environment in which students can flourish regardless of their personal background. I am myself a member of an underrepresented group in academia, and it is important to me that members of my research group be provided the opportunity to be successful without compromising any aspect of their identity. To support these values, I aim to:
- Ensure that the research environment remains healthy, equitable, and inclusive
- Recruit a diverse research team
- Maintain open lines of communication to all group members and colleagues
- Provide a space where group members can celebrate their identities
- Encourage group members and colleagues to understand the constraints and biases faced by members from underrepresented groups
No one should have to repress what makes them who they are to succeed. It is my goal to operate and live by this ideal, but academic science, as a field, is not yet there. Change starts with all of us.
